EasyHotel acquires Cardiff, Wales site for hotel conversion

EasyHotel has acquired a Cardiff city center office facility to be converted into a new budget hotel. The Cromwell House site at Fitzalan Place is in one of the city's leisure areas near Cardiff Street Station, Cardiff Bay, bars, restaurants, movie theaters and attractions, including the Doctor Who Experience at the BBC Roath studios.

Once EasyHotel receives planning permission, the redevelopment will begin with the demolishing of an office block to construct the new 120-guestroom hotel, which is slated to open in 2019. The hotel group has estimated the cost of the site buy and hotel construction will total approximately £8 million.

Fletcher Morgan represented EasyHotel during the transaction while Savills represented the vendor.

EasyHotel's portfolio includes five owned hotels and 20 franchised hotels. Its new property in Liverpool is set to open in next month while its new properties in Ipswich, Barcelona, Leeds and Sheffield are slated for 2018 openings. EasyHotel also has Reading, Dubai, Bernkastel-Kues, Lisbon, Istanbul and Kathmandu projects in the works.

This announcement follows the opening of EasyHotel’s Manchester location in September 2017. The new 115-guestroom hotel, which was redeveloped from the original Grade 2-listed Bradley House, is in the city’s Northern Quarter near restaurants, bars, music venues and Piccadilly Gardens. The group acquired “The Flatiron” building on the corner of Dale and Newton Streets in June 2015 for approximately £6 million. Other recent EasyHotel openings include Brussels, Amsterdam Arena, Zaandam and Birmingham, which opened earlier this year.
