Hard Rock to open in historic Amsterdam building

Hard Rock International is expanding its hotel portfolio in Europe. The Hard Rock Hotel Amsterdam American is slated to open in April 2020 on Leidseplein Square.

The hotel will be a conversion of the former American Hotel, one of the city's Art-Nouveau-style buildings that was built in 1900. The renovated property will have 173 rooms and suites but will keep all vintage decorative features intact, from stained-glass windows to paintings on the interior walls. Signature Hard Rock memorabilia also will be incorporated.

“We look forward to bringing the Hard Rock vibe to this exciting cultural capital,” said Todd Hricko, SVP and head of global hotel business development. “Amsterdam is a renowned location of entertainment, and Hard Rock is thrilled to bring a music-inspired destination to the heart of this city.”

“I am really excited that Hard Rock Hotels will be our partner in Amsterdam,” commented Leon Dijkstra, owner of the site. “The brand will add an extra dimension to the Amsterdam hotel scene. Hard Rock appeals to an audience that suits both the vision of the city and what we as an Amsterdam based hotel company like to see, namely guests from all over the world that enjoy music and appreciate luxury, excellent service and great comfort. The family-run company Eden Hotels remains the owner of the American hotel, so with this partnership we have the best of both worlds."

Public spaces at the Hard Rock Hotel Amsterdam American will include a fitness center, more than 230 square meters of meeting space, the Art Deco Café Americain, Bar Americain and the GMT + 1 lobby lounge.

The hotel is within walking distance of some of Amsterdam’s most prominent museums, including the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum.
