Outbound Hotels launches U.S. collection with outdoor-focused properties

Outbound Hotels is a new collection of locally minded hotels and experiences in outdoor destinations such as Jackson Hole, Wy. and Mammoth Lakes, Ca. Each property is a place for travelers to disconnect so they can reconnect with nature and what matters: good times, good people and all-around good vibes, according to the company. Each property brings together music, local culture and the outdoors with alternative lodging to create unforgettable experiences. Each property is close enough to a town where visitors can immerse themselves in the local culture, and close enough to nature where they can easily hit the trails, bike, ski, climb or swim.

“We dig deep to unearth and offer what makes these amazing places amazing,” Matthew Mering, executive vice president of hospitality at Waterton, Outbound Hotels’ ownership group, said in a statement. “We’re passionate about going the extra mile to help travelers have experiences that turn them into Outbounders: curious explorers who get their thrills from nature and love and respect the places they visit.”

To deliver a memorable experience to these guests, Outbound Hotels partners with experienced hospitality providers, including Springboard Hospitality, a hotel management company with over 30 years of history transforming hotels, and The Gettys Group, a Chicago-based hotel design and development firm, to thoughtfully infuse each property with a unique charm and character. Amenity partners add unexpected extra touches for guests, from Solo Stove (known for their smokeless fire pits) to The Kin (an app that offers 24/7 pet health and nutrition support), created by the team behind popular pet blog The Wildest.

Outbound Hotels properties emphasize on-property community and connection, from complimentary campfire s’mores to morning yoga by the pool to weekly programs like karaoke night and live acoustic sessions.

Properties in the Outbound Hotels collection include:

  • The Virginian Lodge, an Outbound Hotel in Jackson Hole, Wy: Glenn Napierskie built The Virginian Lodge in the 1960s after seeing visitors in Jackson Hole sleeping in their cars. The dog-friendly property has two hot tubs, seven built-in fire pits, an all-season pool, the iconic Virginian Saloon, and more than 4,000 square feet of event space. Guests and locals can also dine at the newly opened Billy’s Burgers. Also just opened, Midtown Liquor has provisions before heading out to explore the wilds of Jackson Hole. Starting every morning at 7 a.m., Midtown also has grab-and-go breakfast burritos ready to fuel your day and coffee from local roaster Alpine Air.
  • Outbound Mammoth (formerly Sierra Nevada Resort) in Mammoth Lakes, Ca: Recently rebranded to Outbound Mammoth, the resort is a six-acre respite with convenient access to the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, Mammoth Lakes hiking trails and the Tioga Pass entrance to Yosemite National Park. Building off of the over 50-year foundation of this storied hotel, as part of the rebrand, Outbound has reimagined this Mammoth Lakes living legend with fully renovated rooms and chalets plus the addition of 10 new cabins and 20 villas. Outbound Mammoth has more amenities than any other resort in the region including a new pool area, an on-site restaurant, a steam room, a dry sauna, fire pits and offerings for pets.

Each Outbound Hotels property is unique and features a variety of accommodation types, from cabins to chalets, bunk rooms to suites. Every property features the basics: ample self-parking, complimentary Wi-Fi, in-room coffee and tea, and friendly, knowledgeable staff to help them plan their stay. Outbound Hotels properties offer an approachable price point that varies based on the room type and seasonality. Rates start from $150.

Outbound Hotels' expansion plans include opening properties in Stowe, Vt., opening in July 2024, and Yosemite National Park, opening in the first quarter 2025. Outbound Hotels has collaborated with the Brooklyn-based design firm One Union Studio to create a comfortably cool aesthetic for both projects.
