Savannah, Ga., to get two new hotels

Florida-based construction company Firmo Construction and Swift RE kicked off construction on two new hotel projects in Savannah, Ga.—the TownePlace Suites by Marriott Savannah Gateway South and the Holiday Inn Express Savannah Gateway South—with a dual groundbreaking ceremony.

The TownePlace Suites will be a four-story structure 20 minutes from downtown Savannah with 120 rooms, a fitness center, a banquet room and an outdoor pool and patio area. Situated on a 2.81-acre site, the new-build project is replacing an older hotel that has since been demolished.

The adjacent two-acre lot is the site of the future Holiday Inn Express Savannah Gateway South, a four-story structure that will have 104 rooms, a fitness center, a banquet room and an outdoor pool and patio. The projects will take about two years to complete.

Firmo Construction is working with Elevate Architecture Studio and Maupin Engineering to bring the two hotels to completion. Having worked together on a Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott in Alpharetta, Ga., this will be their third hospitality partnership in two years. The projects are a joint venture between Hawkeye Hotels and Swift RE.

“This is an exciting dual-brand hotel development and a positive economic indicator for the strong hospitality industry in Savannah,” said Eric Collin, president of Firmo Construction. “We look forward to continuing our successful partnership with the leaders at Swift RE who have sustained their commitment to the region’s travel and tourism industry.”
