Three new California hotels open

California got three new hotels this week—the Hotel Ziggy in West Hollywood, the Cambria Hotel in Calabasa and the La Quinta Inn & Suites in Santa Cruz.

Hotel Ziggy

The new Hotel Ziggy opened on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles' West Hollywood neighborhood, next to Mondrian Los Angeles and down the street from the sites of the late Tower Records and House of Blues.

Combining a cocktail lounge, pizza joint, music venue and lobby into one space, Hotel Ziggy has hotel guests check in at the bar lined with hundreds of vinyl albums. Layers of decoupaged walls and ceilings celebrate musicians of past and present. A collection of memorabilia includes framed legal documents highlighting decades of lawsuits between musicians, producers and streamers.

The hotel, conceptualized by Dawson Design Associates, celebrates musicians. Street murals wrap the front exterior of the building, the courtyard surrounding the pool and the main lobby spaces, all expressing the vitality and rebelliousness of the music scene.

A mix of modern and vintage furniture is on top of rustic hardwood floors and worn area rugs to encourage informality. "It was vital that this hotel didn't take itself too seriously," said Andrea Sheehan, founding principle and art director at DDA. "We kept things simple so the art could speak for itself. We stripped away all previous attempts to make this quirky building look modern. Instead, we exposed its blemishes and embraced the awkward structure for what it was."

Hotel Ziggy also has a Shred Shed that includes electric and acoustic guitars, amps, records, record players, Walkmans and backpacks to use.

Cambria Hotel Calabasa

Choice Hotels International has opened the the Cambria Hotel Calabasas in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley. The hotel is the brand's fifth location in California, joining hotels in the wine country of Napa and Sonoma, LAX and the Cambria Hotel Anaheim Resort Area.

The three-story, 125-room property covers four acres between the Santa Monica foothills and Malibu Canyon. The hotel is also near several corporate headquarters. Inside, the property has nearly 2,000 square feet of multifunction meeting space.

The Cambria Hotel Calabasas was developed by franchisee and California-based Weintraub Real Estate Group and is managed by Twenty Four Seven Hotels.

La Quinta Inn & Suites Santa Cruz

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts has opened the La Quinta Inn & Suites Santa Cruz.

This new construction La Quinta hotel has 60 guestrooms and suites and is centrally located equal distance from the Santa Cruz beach and boardwalk, as well as the restaurants and shops of downtown Santa Cruz. It is owned by Kiran Patel.

The La Quinta portfolio includes more than 920 hotels. There are approximately 180 hotels in the La Quinta development pipeline, with additional openings scheduled this year in key U.S. markets such as Austin, Denver and San Jose, Calif.
