Trio of hotels open on U.S. mainland, Puerto Rico

Three notable hotels have opened in Puerto Rico, California and Nebraska in recent weeks.

Residence Inn San Juan Isla Verde

The 231-room Residence Inn by Marriott has opened in the Isla Verde neighborhood of Carolina, Puerto Rico, five minutes from the Luis Muñoz Marin International airport and close to Isla Verde Beach.

Operated by Highgate, the new Residence Inn San Juan Isla Verde has suites with kitchens and separate living and sleeping areas. The kitchens have a refrigerator, cook top, microwave, dishwasher and residential-size appliances as well as dishes and cookware. Rooms have in-suite workspaces with a desk, ergonomic seat and high-speed wireless internet access.

The Residence Inn San Juan Isla Verde also has 708 square feet of meeting space with built-in multimedia technology. Additional amenities include The Market, a self-service laundry room, valet laundry, a fitness center, an outdoor swimming pool and a dedicated pool for kids.

Cormorant Boutique Hotel

The 26-room Cormorant Boutique Hotel has opened in La Jolla, Calif. Named after the area’s Cormorant birds and influenced by the seaside town, the contemporary hotel has coastal-inspired guestrooms with private balconies and La Jolla’s newest rooftop bar and lounge, Birdseye.

Acquired by San Diego-based Oceanic Enterprises in 2016, the property has undergone a renovation and rebranding with design led by Greenwood & Black. Combining midcentury-modern design with art-deco touches, Cormorant has bold lighting fixtures, geometric wall art and wallpaper designs as well as two pop-art murals from local artist Vango.

Cormorant has 26 guestrooms, 22 of which have private balconies. Birdseye, the hotel’s rooftop restaurant and bar led by chef Luciano Scagliarini, offers a “bird’s-eye view” of La Jolla’s shores and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Prospect Market is an upscale grab-and-go marketplace featuring fresh juices, snacks and beverages, along with souvenirs from local businesses.

Scarlet Hotel

Marriott International's Tribute Portfolio has opened the 154-room Scarlet Hotel in Lincoln, Neb. The property is the only hotel in partnership with the University of Nebraska - Lincoln and is located on the Nebraska Innovation Campus.

The property's 154 guestrooms are named after small towns in Nebraska, while three suites are named after prominent leaders. Public spaces include a fitness center and a yoga room.

The hotel has also provided the University of Nebraska - Lincoln with a 2,400-square-foot space on the south end of the first floor that will become the new home for the university's Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management program. The space will offer office suites, classrooms and a commercial training kitchen for their students.
