Aaron King leads $2.4M transformation of Monterey Marriott

Monterey Marriott completed a $2.4 million renovation inspired by life in California's first city. The lobby, Great Room and Fin + Field restaurant under Chef Samuel Santos were renovated. Designer Aaron King of Koncept Design Group helped lead the transformation that used natural elements to create an environment reflecting the characteristics of Monterey and the surrounding areas.

The lobby now has benches clad with driftwood. Dark, wood ceramic flooring ties the lobby and Great Room together. Fabrics and finishes were chosen for their style and durability.

The registration pods have under-lit white quartz waterfall edges that complement dark, oak-stained wood. New lighting throughout the spaces pays tribute to the historical significance of Monterey, with Edison bulbs in iron and hand-blown glass cases. Technology also plays a key role in the new Great Room and lobby, with wireless internet available.

Fin + Field is the hotel's new eatery. The décor of the Monterey restaurant integrates into the heart of the new lobby, picking up the under-lighting at its bar. There are also benches with similar feature.

Monterey Marriott at 350 Calle Principal in Monterey, Calif., is located near the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Pebble Beach, Cannery Row, Monterey Museum of Art and Monterey Regional Airport. The hotel has 10 floors with 319 guestrooms, 22 suites, a restaurant, fitness center, outdoor pool and 31 meeting rooms with 87,946 square feet of total space.
