Beachfront California hotel updates guestrooms, public spaces

In Carlsbad, Calif., the Beach Terrace hotel has completed a $5.5 million renovation of its guestrooms, lobby and pool and beach facilities.

To create a new look for its rooms, the 48-room hotel partnered with Mariana Valero, the principal architect at boutique design firm Amass & G. The guestrooms, which average 600 square feet in size, have a palette of neutral sand tones mixed with pops of color, organic textures, plank flooring, custom furniture and private balconies.

The hotel has 12 700-square-foot rooms with king beds repositioned to face the horizon. All guestrooms include spa bathrooms with glass-enclosed rainfall showers.

Guests can select from a pillow menu offering eight different types of pillows and an assortment of coffee systems including illy, Nespresso, Keurig or Chemex pour-over. The property also offers a complimentary beach valet service for umbrellas, beach chairs, towels, boogie boards and beach toys.

Overlooking the beach, the heated Shorebreak Pool has updated lounge chair seating, umbrellas and multiple communal fire pits.

“The concept of local and sustainable were on our minds as we envisioned the new Beach Terrace,” GM Kent Zittlau said in a statement. “Our new experiences focus on being authentically local through art, landscaping, amenities, and our laid-back vibe in a quaint village neighborhood. Since first opening in 1960s, our little beachfront hotel continues to evolve without losing its original charm along the way. We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished.”

Beach Terrace has been a family-owned and operated boutique hotel for more than 60 years.
