Hotel Paradox completes renovations

Santa Cruz, Calif.-based Hotel Paradox, Autograph Collection, completes its property-wide renovation that includes the transformation of the guest arrival experience, enhanced lobby design, 8,000-square-feet of upgraded indoor and outdoor event space, reimagined amenities, and a dining experience—Solaire Restaurant + Bar. The modern redesign was led by EoA Group and features a juxtaposition of urban and forest elements using naturally sourced materials, and celebrates the Santa Cruz lifestyle with murals by local artist, Jeremiah Kille.

“The transformation of Hotel Paradox breathes new life into Downtown Santa Cruz’ hospitality scene,” Hotel Paradox GM Jason Williams said in a statement. “Appealing to travelers, corporate groups and locals, the property offers a true paradox of sustainability and wellness blended with refreshed touch and serves as a must-visit destination with ongoing events, activations and community partnerships.”

Located less than an hour away from Bay Area airports, the biophilic-designed hotel showcases live and preserved mosses, plants and greenery throughout the property, with tree trunks incorporated in the lobby and energy-efficient LED lighting that complements the textural materials, polished stone and wood grain that expands from the common spaces to each private room retreat. Surrounded by California Redwoods, the pool deck is a vibrant center of the hotel, steps away from the main lobby and guestrooms, and encompasses an outdoor terrace, hot tub, cabanas and fire pit—serving as a hub for many special events and intimate gatherings.

Solaire Restaurant + Bar, led by executive chef Stefen Shatto, operates from 7 a.m.-9 p.m. daily and pairs a nature/nurture themed American menu with sustainable, local ingredients inspired by East Asian flavors. The premier eatery features the “Inverted Gardens” by San Diego artist, Britton Beubacher, which is a series of five moss sculptures suspended from the ceiling to create a cascading foliage floating effect over tables as if the forest floor has paradoxically become the sky.

Additional amenities within the property include a 24/7 fitness center, complimentary skateboards and an on-property bike rental, free library book exchange, a pet-friendly guest experience, and a rooftop apiary with sustainable honey harvest.
