Langham, Boston, prepares to reopen after $150M upgrade

The Langham, Boston will reopen this summer after a two-year, $150 million upgrade to the former Federal Reserve Bank of Boston building. Local architecture and design firm Dyer Brown contributed a new entry and exterior designs and worked with London-based interior designer Richmond International to redesign the hotel’s common areas and amenity spaces.

The new lobby will be decorated in jewel tones with a fireplace, seating and high-design concierge area and check-in desk.

The completely redesigned guestrooms and suites will all have new marble-clad bathrooms, New England-inspired décor and, in the case of the hotel's Loft Suites, two-story brass-embossed windows accenting the bilevel living and sleeping quarters left from the building’s day as a bank. The penthouse Chairman's Suite has a king bedroom, hardwood floors, a living room and a dining room that seats eight people.

For meetings and private dining functions, the Governor's Room got an oak table with bronze detail and leather panel inserts, plaid carpeting and historic photos of the building. The new Lincoln Ballroom, accommodating 175 guests, will have natural light by way of a skylight flanked by chandeliers, and windows in its prefunction space overlooking Norman B. Leventhal Park.

The Fed, a new destination bar, has an outdoor terrace and a British cocktail pub menu with a New England twist. Grana will serve Italian fare in the former grand hall of the bank, accented with high ceilings, chandeliers and velvet banquettes.

In the fall, The Langham will open The Langham Club, a private space where members can meet, eat and socialize; and a new pool, hot tub and fitness center.
