Oceana Beach Club Hotel to open in May following $25M update

Oceana Beach Club Hotel in Santa Monica, Calif., is scheduled to open as the all-new Oceana in May. First opened along Ocean Avenue in 1996, the property is undergoing a $25 million transformation.

When it opens, Oceana will evoke a beachside home-away-from-home, delivering a private residential experience in Santa Monica's neighborhood north of Wilshire Boulevard.

Oceana will have an all-new entrance and lobby; 70 suites with ocean views and custom high-end furnishings; a private indoor-outdoor restaurant and bar; outdoor courtyard lounge with swimming pool and social gathering space; fitness studio and spa; and events space.

Interior designer Anna Busta of New York City's Busta Studio has been working on the project. In the design of Oceana, Busta will use a color palette including ivories, silvers and blues meeting blackened steel and gold metal accents. There will be bold geometric patterns and extensive wood finishes, as well as a custom art program in collaboration with Los Angeles artists and international photographers.

The two-story entrance will be clad in ivy. The lobby will have views of the Pacific Ocean and outdoor courtyard lounge with pool, while offering a living room setting with a hanging glass light installation by Alison Berger, fire pit and cerused oak wood ship lap paneling.

In total, there will be 70 guest suites, many with ocean views and will feature hanging swings beside front doors; high-end furnishings and accent pieces including velvet sofas, four-poster beds, minibar cabinets and hand-tufted rugs from Nepal; artwork commissioned from Los Angeles artists and international photographers; Loro Piana bedding and Frette linens. The color palette used will include neutrals and blues; and there will be bold geometric patterns throughout.  Spa-inspired bathrooms will have Bottega Veneta amenities.

Guest suites with living rooms average 850 square feet, and eight room types will range from studio suites (measuring 500 square feet) to two-bedroom ocean-view suites (measuring up to 1,700 square feet). Select suites will have ocean-view balconies and amenities including soaking tubs, walk-in closets, pull-out queen sofa beds, kitchens and connecting options.

The property will have an indoor-outdoor restaurant and bar curated by a Santa Monica restauranteur. Fashioned in soft pastels inspired by ocean sunsets, the restaurant will serve New American cuisine.

There will be an outdoor courtyard lounge that will evolve from a social gathering space to an evening hideout. Designed by landscape architecture firm Perry Guillot of the Hamptons, the outdoor courtyard lounge will have a swimming pool, alfresco dining and cocktails, fire pits and James Perse upholstered teak furniture.

Just off the outdoor courtyard lounge, there will be a fitness studio. An adjacent spa will include a treatment room, manicure and pedicure station and barber chair for hair services. In-room spa treatments will also be available.

For event, the property will have 900 square feet of venues that can accommodate up to 60 people.

Oceana is owned and operated by JRK Hotel Group, a division of Los Angeles-based JRK Property Holdings.
