Terranea Resort marks 8th anniversary with completion of $40M enhancement

Terranea Resort, A Destination Hotel completed property enhancements, just as the property marks its eighth anniversary. The updates retain the heritage of Terranea’s aesthetic, featuring a blend of classic Spanish Colonial style with elements of Coastal California.

Since its opening, Terranea already invested approximately $40 million in enhancements including upgraded guestroom amenities, the addition of a fourth resort pool, a new poolside eatery, and a complete redesign of its dining venue, Catalina kitchen.

More recently, California-based interior design firm, Bamo reimagined Terranea’s guestrooms and suites with aesthetic upgrades that reflect the Mediterranean style of the resort, including new décor and furnishings. The property now has round marble tables instead of desks, and each room also has new mattresses and bed linens. The in-room enhancements, combined with those completed in 2015, cost $8 million. During the most recent enhancement, Terranea donated furniture, mirrors, lighting fixtures and electronics to The ReStore, a social enterprise of Habitat for Humanity.

Guestrooms now have wood and mirrored-millwork paneling that provides a backdrop for a new Spanish Colonial-style raised-panel dresser and table. Local artwork complements the rooms’ designs.

Enhancements in the Shearwater Suites and Vanderlip Suite include wood accents.

Earlier, Terranea’s bungalows, casitas and villas were also enhanced.

Catalina kitchen was redesigned and now has an open kitchen, revamped interior and exterior décor, and new bar. Food stations now line the perimeter of the restaurant, including a seafood island.

In 2015, Terranea introduced the Vista Pool, the resort’s fourth pool, open to guests ages 13 and older. Located adjacent to Terranea’s signature restaurant, mar’sel, the $3.4 million addition has a saltwater pool and hot tub with views of the Pacific Ocean. Terranea also recently debuted The Grill at Terranea in May, providing new outdoor dining option.

Other past enhancements in the property included a refreshing of the Lobby Bar & Terrace; new furnishings, garden and an aquarium at Tide Pool Kids Club; addition of umbrellas and lounge chairs, along with lawn games, at Beach Cove; and opening of the retail boutique marea. In 2012, the resort also debuted bashi restaurant.
