Texas Westin wraps upgrades to guestrooms, public spaces

In Texas, the Westin Riverwalk, San Antonio, has completed a redesign of its guestrooms and corridors; a renovation of the business center, public restrooms and fitness center; and a full restoration for the on-site restaurant and bar, ZoccaCuisine D’Italia. The eight-month upgrade blends traditional design and contemporary-inspired elements together.

“We’re beyond thrilled to see our vision come to life,” General Manager Maria Martinez said in a statement. “This was the natural next step to elevate the total guest experience. We didn’t want to lose the existing charm people have come to know and love, so we built upon our authentic riverfront locale and delivered certain luxuries to mirror the premium status of the hotel ... paying homage to San Antonio’s culture.”

Dallas-based interior design firm Waldrop + Nichols developed a residential feel for the hotel. The new business center, just off from the lobby, got flexible seating options to accommodate both individual and small groups. The lobby and the workspace have complementary tones of indigo and wood lacquer finishes blending together for a heterogenous feel. The guestroom restoration includes bathroom enhancements for certain room types that were upgraded with walk-in showers using natural stone accents. Upgraded elevators and guestroom floor corridors reference Spanish medallions providing inspiration for the new axminister carpet design woven in colors of clay and sand. The revitalized fitness studio got custom millwork features.

The new bar at Zocca, an on-site restaurant that serves Italian-inspired dishes with a Texas twist, has an indoor-outdoor integration between the interior and the patio along the San Antonio River Walk. The bar also has a walk-up component for people strolling along the River Walk. The interiors include tables and chairs, walled-in booths, banquette seating areas and a wine-inspired private dining room. Flair comes from gold accents, fresco murals, fragmented stone and patterned tile.

The Westin Riverwalk, San Antonio has 473 renovated guestrooms, three restaurants, a pool deck, a fitness studio and more than 26,000 square feet of meeting and event space. The hotel is within walking distance of the Alamo.
