In the Marketplace: Otelier's Niki Johnson

Specific challenges often call for distinct solutions, but sometimes an assortment of specialized approaches can lead to siloes. Otelier, which launched in early 2024 as a cloud-based hotel performance management platform, unified a suite of best-in-class back-office automation, budgeting and forecasting, and business intelligence solutions so hoteliers can focus on exceptional guest experiences rather than mundane, energy-draining back-office tasks.

A Comprehensive Approach

Integrating companies—like myDigitalOffice, Broadvine, Focal Revenue, Datavision, HelloGM, and InTouch—that had spent a decade or more building cutting-edge solutions solving specific challenges for their hospitality customers produced a comprehensive, data-driven performance management platform that serves more than 10,000 hotels globally, from independent resorts to the largest hotel management groups and leading industry brands. Count Marriott, Accor and Mandarin Oriental properties as fans of the platform, as well as hospitality management companies that include Aimbridge, Highgate, TPG Hotels & Resorts, Stonebridge and Hotel Equities, to name a few.

“Unifying several best-in-class software systems is no easy task, but I’m incredibly proud of the work our teams have done over the past two years to assemble a platform that provides a seamless, comprehensive solution for hoteliers,” said Chief Product Officer Niki Johnson. “One of our first steps was completely modernizing our tech stack, which allowed us to make our platform stable, secure and high-performing. This foundation opened up new possibilities for our product suite, letting us build features that deliver real value to our customers.

“Simultaneously—with input from customers and hoteliers around the world—we went through a thorough process to rebrand the company into something that would better reflect our new, unified platform and more clearly define our solutions,” she added.

Simple Decision-Making from Complex Data

Put simply, Otelier is a hospitality performance optimization platform empowering hotel owners and operators with the data and efficiencies they need to get back to delivering exceptional hospitality, Johnson explained. The company addresses challenges in three verticals:

  • Back-office automation: DigiAudit, Rec, and DigiPay streamline common and mundane tasks like night audit compliance, income journaling, financial reconciliations, and vendor payments to reduce manual workload.
  • Budgeting and forecasting: TruePlan provides collaboration tools for streamlined and accurate financial planning and forecasting across hotel portfolios.
  • Business intelligence: IntelliSight centralizes data from all the systems across a hotel’s technology stack, as well as third-party data sets, to offer actionable insights for informed decision-making.

Modern compliance workflows, comprehensive data centralization and bottom-line profitability date are the three key differentiators for Otelier, according to Johnson. Tools and solutions were built for property-level users, “easing the completion of tasks and giving time back to hoteliers so they can focus on the guest,” she said.

What's Next?

“We are exploring new advancements in artificial intelligence and automation that we think will transform nearly all areas of hospitality operations,” Johnson shared. “AI has so much potential in our industry, and it all starts with collecting and normalizing the data in a central location. It’s critical for us to ensure that we have created a secure, scalable foundation for product innovation and that we are thoughtful about how our customers will deploy AI, so we are bringing them into the conversation. As result, our AI roadmap prioritizes areas that can give time back to hoteliers and reduce the time between insights and decisions.”

Harnessing data well, Otelier asserts, can turn confusion into clarity, which in turn creates insights to inspire action. Otelier is comprised of five solutions: DigiAudit for night audit compliance, TruePlan for modern budgeting and forecasting, IntelliSight for advanced business intelligence, Rec for financial reconciliations, and DigiPay for automated accounts payable. These solutions address challenges across three verticals: back-office automation, budgeting and forecasting, and business intelligence.
