5th D.C.-area Cambria breaks ground

Donohoe Development Co. and Koucar Management began construction on the Cambria Hotel Washington D.C. Capitol Riverfront, the brand’s fifth location in the Washington, D.C., metro area. The nine-story, 154-room hotel is expected to open in early 2021.

The upcoming hotel will be located within walking distance of Nationals Park, the new Audi Field soccer stadium and the Nava Yard Metro Station. It will feature a ground-level restaurant, a rooftop lounge with a 3,500-square-foot terrace, 2,500 square feet of meeting space and a fitness center.

"The D.C. area has been home to Choice Hotels' corporate office for decades—so we're especially excited when a Cambria hotel breaks ground in our own backyard," Janis Cannon, SVP, upscale brands for Choice Hotels International, said in a statement. "We are pleased the hotel will join four Cambria hotels already in the 'DMV,' including College Park (Md.); Rockville (Md.); Washington, D.C., Convention Center; and Arundel Mills-BWI."

BBGM Architects will serve as architect for the project and Donohoe Hospitality Services will operate it. The Cambria Hotel Washington D.C. Capitol Riverfront marks the fourth Cambria hotel under development by Koucar Management and will be the second in Donohoe Hospitality Services’ management portfolio.

There are more than 45 Cambria hotels open across the United States, with up to four expected to open by the end of the year. Eight locations representing more than 1,100 rooms have opened this year so far.
