Pantone has selected Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse, a soft brown shade, as the Pantone Color of the Year for 2025.
Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse evokes cacao, chocolate and coffee, appealing to people’s desire for comfort, the company said in the announcement. “Underpinned by our desire for everyday pleasures, Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse expresses a level of thoughtful indulgence,” Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said in a statement. “Sophisticated and lush, yet at the same time an unpretentious classic, Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse extends our perceptions of the browns from being humble and grounded to embrace the aspirational and luxe. Infused with subtle elegance and earthy refinement, Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse presents a discrete and tasteful touch of glamour. A flavorful brown shade, Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse envelopes us with its sensorial warmth.”
The color “honors and embraces” the sustenance of our physical environment. “The everlasting search for harmony filters through into every aspect of our lives including our relationships, the work we do, our social connections and the natural environment that surrounds us. Harmony brings feelings of contentment, inspiring a positive state of inner peace, calm, and balance as well as being tuned in with the world around us. Harmony embraces a culture of connection and unity as well as the synthesis of our mental, spiritual and physical well-being,” added Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute. “With that in mind, for Pantone Color of the Year 2025, we look to a color that reaches into our desire for comfort and wellness, and the indulgence of simple pleasures that we can giF and share with others.”
Partnering Companies
A number of design-related businesses have collaborated with Pantone to release Mocha Mousse products for the new year.
Furniture company Joybird will release its performance fabric, Royale, in the shade for more than 300 of Joybird’s silhouebes, including sofas, sectionals, sleeper sofas, upholstered bed frames, accent chairs, obomans, pillows, slipcovers and more. Royale was selected specifically for this collaboration due to its silk-like hand feel and fine knit velvet weave.
Textile company Ultrafabrics is focusing on “Simple Pleasures,” a design philosophy that emphasizes “slowing down and savoring quiet moments, brought to life through soothing colors and soft textures.” The concept has inspired an exclusive color palette by Ultrafabrics, along with interactive events and bespoke color customization across the brand’s range of vegan leathers.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with Pantone once again for the Color of the Year 2025. This year’s color embodies harmony and balance, aligning perfectly with Ultrafabrics’ commitment to creating interiors that inspire sensorial comfort and connection,” said Jennifer Hendren, vice president of product development at Ultrafabrics. “Its timeless beauty and calming essence resonate deeply with our philosophy of redefining luxury through mindful design. This color reminds us of the power of simplicity and the joy of everyday moments, and we can’t wait to see how it transforms spaces across industries.”
Throughout 2025, Ultrafabrics and Pantone will develop a color palette, sensory workshops and curated inspirations to help designers across industries.
