Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ Luxury & Lifestyle Collection, has broken ground on its new hotel in Reno, Nev., along with owning company CAI Investments. When it opens in late 2024, the new Kimpton in Reno will be the first newly constructed nongaming hotel in the city. It will also be the brand’s first hotel in Nevada.

The property will take up approximately 16 stories of a 20-story new-build, multiuse tower with approximately 270 guestrooms. Obermeier Sheykhet Architecture will serve as the architect for the property as well as the accompanying 55,000-square-foot office space and residences. Public spaces at the hotel will include four restaurants and bars, an outdoor pool, a day spa, a fitness center and approximately 16,000 square feet of meetings and events space.

“We are thrilled to be working with CAI Investments to expand our footprint in the mountain region and open the first Kimpton in Nevada,” said Kimpton CEO Mike DeFrino. “Reno represents a unique intersection of work and play, with a growing tech scene and world-class entertainment venues. That mentality fits perfectly with Kimpton’s, and we know our guests, whether traveling for leisure or for business, will find a reason to come back or extend their stay to maximize on the opportunities for exploration in northern Nevada.”

Referred to as “America’s Adventure Place,” Reno is alongside the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada mountain range and is close to Lake Tahoe. The city has become a hub for technology companies like Tesla, Apple and Google.

“The expansion that has taken place in Reno is nothing short of amazing and the continued revitalization of amenities demonstrates what a fantastic destination Reno and northern Nevada are,” said Chris Beavor, CEO of CAI Investments. “Our partnership with Kimpton will only continue to elevate the region which has become known as a getaway destination full of outdoor recreation, impressive food and beverage options and some unmatched annual events. We look forward to being a partner in Reno’s continued elevation—an effort I am particularly proud of as a Reno native.”
