IHG plans Spanish launch for Kimpton

IHG is set to bring its boutique Kimpton brand to Spain with the opening of the Kimpton Barcelona in the second half of 2019.

When it opens next year, the 156-guestroom Kimpton Barcelona will be centrally located in the heart of Barcelona’s old town near La Rambla street. The neighborhood surrounding the hotel has a mix of boutiques from local and international designers, and is within easy walking distance to the city’s top attractions.

The hotel will have a rooftop pool with views of Barcelona’s city center and the Cathedral.

For this new project, IHG is partnering with Casacuberta, a Barcelona-based private company with more than 30 years specializing in the acquisition and transformation of properties across key European cities. The company has hotels in Madrid, Barcelona and Geneva, as part of a portfolio including assets in the residential, commercial, office and industrial/logistics sectors.

“Barcelona is one of the most popular city break destinations in Europe, attracting over 30 million tourists each year,” said Kenneth Macpherson, CEO of Europe, Middle East, Asia and Africa at IHG in a statement. “We’ve seen in Amsterdam how well our boutique luxury offering has been received in Europe and this new signing provides more momentum for Kimpton’s global growth, following other recent signings in Frankfurt and Tokyo.” Macpherson expects the brand to get more signings in new global markets in the coming years.

As of the end of June, Kimpton operates 67 hotels and 82 restaurants, bars and lounges in the U.S., the Caribbean and Europe.
