One&Only Resorts to enter Malaysian hotel market

Kerzner International has set plans to introduce its One&Only Resorts brand into the Malaysian hotel market with the opening of the One&Only Desaru Coast.

A 128-acre beachfront development will have 44 guestrooms along with a 4-room villa and approximately 50 One&Only private homes available for purchase. The property, designed by architectural firm Kerry Hill Architects, will be accessible from Singapore Changi International Airport and Senai International Airport in the state of Johor.

The new One&Only project is part of the brand's international expansion plans. The brand currently operates seven properties, two of which operate in Asia-Pacific: The One&Only Reethi Rah in the Maldives and the Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley in Australia.

“We are proud to have been selected to operate the ultra-luxury resort on Desaru Coast as One&Only, and we look forward to announcing an opening date in the near future. With the evolution of One&Only and the introduction of One&Only Private Homes, Nature Resorts and Urban Resorts, One&Only Desaru Coast will be an incredible beach destination, with an exclusive residential community,” Michael Wale, CEO of Kerzner International, said in a statement.

“As with all properties within the portfolio, our resort in Malaysia will be incredibly private, yet buzzing with life and energy,” Philippe Zuber, president and COO of One&Only Resorts, said in a statement. “We are proud One&Only will be part of this exciting new destination and provide a completely elevated experience for guests to discover.”

This will be Kerzner International's latest addition to its portfolio in Asia-Pacific. The group also operates the Atlantis Sanya in China, which has 1,314 guestrooms with 154 suites.

The signing of this new hotel in Malaysia follows plans announced for the One&Only One Za'abeel in the center of Dubai's Za'abeel district opening in 2020. This will coincide with the opening of the two-tower, mixed-use project One Za'abeel that year. The property will not only include the hotel, but residences, serviced apartments, office space, retail space and a sky concourse that will connect both buildings.
