Marriott to bring Westin Hotels brand to the UK

Marriott International has partnered with 4c Hotel Group and RBH to bring the Westin Hotels & Resorts brand to the United Kingdom.

The Westin London City riverfront hotel is slated to open in 2020, stretching from the Queenhithe Dock and across Upper Thames Street. RBH will manage the new Westin while 4c Hotel Group will own it.

The partners are redeveloping the former Queensbridge House site into the new hotel, which will be designed by British architects Dexter Moren Associates. The hotel will have 220 guestrooms with 29 suites and a presidential suite along the River Thames. The property has links to the airport, train and underground and will be near the Shakespeare's Globe, the South Bank, the Tower of London and the Millennium Bridge.

“This is an exciting chapter for the Westin brand,” said John Licence, VP of premium & select brands at Marriott International Europe, in a statement. “It is clear that there is a strong appetite for the brand’s wellness positioning, innovative programming and premium accommodations. With its commanding riverfront location in the commercial and historic heart of the City of London, The Westin London City is sure to offer a reviving and memorable stay for guests in one of the world’s most dynamic cities.”

This hotel signing marks the latest addition to Westin's global development pipeline. It follows the recent openings of hotels in Australia and upcoming openings in Malaysia and the Maldives. The Westin London City will join the brand's portfolio of 19 hotels across Europe in Croatia, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Malta, Poland and Spain.

The new Westin also puts 4c Hotel Group on track to opening more than 1,000 new guestrooms in the UK, Canada and East Africa by the end of 2018. The hotel group also owns the 342-room Canopy by Hilton London City, which is also scheduled to open in early 2020.

Westin London City is set to be RBH's newest property in its portfolio of more than 70 hotels, which operate under IHG, Hilton, Accor, Marriott and Wyndham brands. RBH also operates the Aloft Aberdeen ECC, the Aloft Liverpool, the Courtyard by Marriott Edinburgh, the Courtyard by Marriott Edinburgh West and the Courtyard by Marriott London Luton Airport in the UK.
