Otelier to recognize Night Auditors with annual celebration

Hospitality data platform provider Otelier has announced the return of Night Auditor Appreciation Day on Sunday, May 18.

The annual celebration—launched by Otelier in 2023—recognizes the contributions of night auditors. When much of the hotel staff goes home, the night auditor is often called upon to act as front-desk host, accountant, security guard, breakfast attendant, bartender, and overnight IT support, according to Otelier. These team members are the first line of communication when guests arrive late or experience issues overnight, and they’re the last ones to leave before the day shift takes over.

"Night auditors are the unsung heroes of hotel operations," said Rob Lawrence, CEO of Otelier, in a statement. “Because they work while most of us sleep, their impact can go unnoticed—but their role is absolutely vital. They’re responsible for closing out the day’s financials, keeping properties secure, preparing daily operational reports, and ensuring everything is in order before a new day begins. Night Auditor Appreciation Day is our way of making sure they feel seen, valued, and celebrated."

To honor these dedicated professionals, Otelier is now accepting nominations for its annual Night Auditor of the Year Award. Nominators are encouraged to recognize night auditors who consistently go above and beyond in their duties. The winner will be announced on Friday, May 16, and will receive a $200 Amazon gift card along with public recognition on Otelier’s platforms.

Otelier encourages hotel leaders—general managers, directors of operations, front office managers—to show appreciation for their night audit teams on Sunday, May 18. Some ways to celebrate include surprise snack boxes or gift bags during the shift; gift cards for coffee, groceries, or restaurants; appreciation breakfasts prepared by day-shift teams; handwritten thank-you notes from leadership; and on-property signage and social media shoutouts using #NightAuditorAppreciationDay.
