Meliá Hotels signs new Gran Meliá property in China

Meliá Hotels International will open its third Gran Meliá property in China and group’s 11th property in the China market.

The hotel group signed the Gran Meliá Chengdu in partnership with Chengdu Renju Tourism & Hospitality. The 270-room Gran Meliá Chengdu is scheduled to open in 2021. The property will be in the northwest JinCheng Lake Park in the middle of the city’s old area CBD and new CBD.

"We’re proud to embark on this new partnership with Chengdu Renju Real Estate, a strong state-owned real estate development enterprise in Chengdu, who has a proven success track record and shares the same operational concept with our company,” Bernardo Cabot, SVP of Meliá Hotels International Asia Pacific, said in a statement. “I’m confident that with this strong partnership we can create an exceptional and unique property, and bring Spanish luxury and Spanish hospitality to Chengdu.”

Meliá Hotels will operate the Gran Meliá Chengdu under a management agreement with Chengdu Renju Real Estate, the owner and investment enterprise of the property. Gran Meliá Chengdu will be the company’s first entrance into the hotel industry.

Meliá Hotels International current portfolio in Asia comprises of 48 hotels that are open or in the process of opening in this region. The new property will follow the opening of the Gran Meliá Xi’an and the upcoming opening of the Gran Meliá Zhengzhou.

The recently opened Sol House Bali Kuta is also part of Meliá Hotels’ expansion across Asia-Pacific. The hotel opened as the second hotel operated under the Sol House brand in Bali and Indonesia near its sister property the Sol House Bali Legian. The former Kuta Beach Club reopened on June 4, 2018 as the Sol House Bali Kuta following a total refurbishment and rebranding under the Sol House brand. Meliá Hotels now has eight properties operating in Indonesia along with another eight properties under construction.
