Sonesta International Hotels is expanding its presence in the Dominican Republic following the execution of a franchise agreement for a new-construction hotel in La Romana.

The project will introduce a new MOD Collection by Sonesta property to the destination. The 168-room hotel will join two additional Sonesta properties currently under development in the country—The James Larimar City and Sonesta ES Suites Jarabacoa—further strengthening the company’s regional footprint.

Located on the southeastern coast of the Dominican Republic, the new hotel will be developed in two phases, with the first building scheduled to open in fall 2027 and the second in fall 2028.

“We are excited to see Sonesta’s expansion throughout the LATAM region, specifically the Dominican Republic, as we now have several new properties in development,” Keith Pierce, Sonesta’s co-CEO, said in a statement. “We are thrilled to see the brand continue to grow and are proud to welcome this hotel to the nine MOD properties currently operating across the Americas.”

The Newton, Mass.-based franchisor describes the MOD Collection by Sonesta as a lifestyle brand designed for today’s modern traveler, blending creativity, flexibility and local character.
