Kimpton Ashbel New York–Park Avenue—a boutique luxury hotel in Midtown Manhattan and part of the IHG Hotels & Resorts luxury and lifestyle portfolio—has officially opened at 70 Park Avenue.
The property reintroduces a reimagined Beaux-Arts landmark to Manhattan and is near Grand Central Terminal and Bryant Park. Originally constructed in 1928 as the Doral Park Avenue Hotel, the building has been transformed into a residential-style retreat inspired by the character of a classic Manhattan townhouse.
“Kimpton Ashbel is the kind of hotel that feels like a secret key, a personal enclave for those who know where to look,” Sofia L. Vandaele, regional director of operations for IHG Luxury & Lifestyle in New York, said in a statement. “Our intention is for guests to feel as though they are stepping into the home of a stylish New Yorker—an elegant Manhattan socialite and a warm, inviting host.”
The hotel features 205 guestrooms, including 14 family-friendly connecting rooms, each designed with soft palettes and tailored interiors. Kimpton Ashbel replaced the conventional lobby with interconnected residential-style spaces, including a foyer, living room and family room. These areas are framed by preserved architectural elements such as original columns and windows.
The design—led by Busta Studio—is designed to blend warm woods, curated gold accents and playful touches of color with custom furnishings that incorporate organic textures and refined metal details. The restored limestone façade anchors the hotel in its architectural heritage, while interiors introduce a softer, more intimate atmosphere.
At the center of the property, the living room serves as a social hub, featuring a floating open-space banquette and a curated library. Adjacent to the space is Park & Bel, the hotel’s café concept, which functions as both a neighborhood gathering spot and an extension of the living room. The café offers artisanal baked goods, seasonal fruit and sandwiches in the morning, transitioning to small plates in the evening.
A curated art program from Soho Art Gallery is designed to enhance the residential ambiance, showcasing original mixed-media works, while a collection of Assouline and Taschen books looks to reinforce a refined yet approachable aesthetic.
The hotel features Kimpton’s signature Kickstart program each morning with complimentary coffee and tea, while the nightly Kimpton Social hour invites guests to gather over beer and wine in a relaxed setting.
Kimpton Ashbel New York–Park Avenue joins Kimpton’s expanding portfolio, which includes recent openings such as Kimpton Mirador Pacific Grove Monterey and Kimpton Miralina Resort & Villas.
