Stonehill Taylor-designed Conrad New York Midtown opens

The Conrad New York Midtown, formerly The London, has opened as New York City’s newest luxury hotel, featuring the design of Stonehill Taylor.

At the lobby, there is a hyperrealist sculpture of a crystal-clad swimmer on a swan float, said to be a reinterpretation of the Greek myth of Leda and the swan, with Leda in a position of power over Zeus. In all, 37 artists are featured in the hotel, including Matisse, Warhol, Judd and Calder.

There are 13 premium suites in addition to over 500 hotel suites. Among them, the two-story Penthouse on 54 has wraparound Central Park views and comes with a nightly live musical performance. The Atrium Suite, perched 43 stories high, has a living area housed in a glass, greenhouse-like enclosure.
