Thompson Hotels expands to Washington, D.C.

The 225-room Thompson Washington D.C. opens Jan. 8, marking the luxury brand’s debut in the nation’s capital. Standing 11 stories high, the newly built hotel features restaurant and bar concepts by Union Square Hospitality Group and more than 7,000 square feet of meeting and event spaces.

Maialino Mare, the hotel’s main ground floor restaurant, is accessible from street level and offers a private dining room and wine room. Opening in the coming weeks, the hotel’s rooftop bar Anchovy Social will serve cocktails, wines, beer and shareable food. The hotel also offers a private events space adjacent to Anchovy Social with its own private bar.

The hotel is designed to be the social anchor of a new mixed-use development in the city’s Navy Yard neighborhood. Called The Yard, the 42-acre development also includes dozens of specialty retailers, restaurants and high-end residences.

Hyatt Hotels Corp. owns the Thompson Washington D.C. and Pivot Hotels & Resorts, the lifestyle and luxury arm of Davidson Hotels & Resorts, operates it. New York-based Studios Architecture served as architect for the project and Parts and Labor Design handled its interiors.
