Under Canvas opens first California Camp near Yosemite National Park

Under Canvas has expand its presence in outdoor travel destinations with the opening of Under Canvas Yosemite, its first location in California.

Located on 85 acres in the Sierra Nevada, the property is positioned as a gateway to Yosemite National Park. The camp includes 71 safari-style tents with ensuite bathrooms, as well as a central lobby tent with lounge seating, café-style dining and communal gathering areas.

“Under Canvas Yosemite marks our 13th camp and exciting milestone as we expand into California,” Sean Rush, COO of Belgrade, Mont.-based Under Canvas, said in a statement. “With every new location, we hope to open access for travelers to explore amazing destinations like never before by bringing together unrivaled comfort, intentional design and the sprit of adventure—and we’re thrilled to now give our guests the space to connect with the awe-inspiring Yosemite National Park.”

Under Canvas Yosemite has been designated a DarkSky Approved resort by DarkSky International, making it the first property in California to receive the certification. The designation reflects compliance with standards aimed at reducing light pollution through controlled lighting design and guest education initiatives.

The site is located near Yosemite’s Big Oak Flat entrance and includes access to the Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System (YARTS), which provides transportation into the park. Amenities include a mix of on-site programming such as campfires, yoga sessions and live music, along with access to guided outdoor activities including hiking, rock climbing, rafting and fly fishing. An on-site concierge facilitates bookings for these experiences.
