Alderman leaves Radisson, interim CEO named

Radisson Hotel Group Americas today announced Chief Commercial Officer Tom Buoy will step up as interim CEO. Jim Alderman, who took over that position in March 2020, has left the company to pursue other opportunities, according to Radisson.

The company has started its search for a permanent replacement.

Tom Buoy was appointed EVP and chief commercial officer at Radisson in July, preceded by 11 months as head of Revenue Buoy, a strategic advisory and consulting company. Before that he spent more than 20 years at Extended Stay America and Morgans Hotel Group as well as three years in Ernst & Young’s hospitality services group.

Before joining the Radisson team, Alderman most recently served as EVP and chief development officer at Extended Stay America, where he started the company’s franchising group. Before ESA, Alderman held senior leadership positions with Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Starwood Capital, IHG and Ernst & Young.

Shortly after Alderman took over, the company appointed Phil Hugh chief development officer for the Americas.

Also during Alderman’s tenure, Radisson launched a new conversion brand in October 2020. Radisson Individuals aims to bring independent hotels and local, regional chains into the global Radisson Hotel Group platform.

He also spearheaded the company’s move to a new corporate headquarters from Minnetonka, Minn., to St. Louis Park, Minn. The move will be completed in early 2022.

“Our plan is to continue to move forward with the vision set forth by our board and executive team to grow the company,” Buoy said in a statement. “We have an exceptional internal team of leaders focused on making Radisson Hotel Group Americas better for owners, franchisees, team members, and investors alike, and I am very confident we will continue to grow in 2022 and beyond.”
