Detroit's Shinola Hotel gets new operating partner

Hotel owner Bedrock has named Sage Hospitality Group as the operating partner of downtown Detroit’s Shinola Hotel. Located in downtown on historic Woodward Avenue and adjacent to Parker’s Alley, Sage will oversee daily operations and management of the boutique property. Shinola Hotel joins the Sage Independent Hotel Collection, part of the company’s extensive portfolio of more than 120 hotels, restaurants, and venues across 16 states and the District of Columbia.

The 129-room Shinola Hotel is named for Shinola, a Detroit-based luxury design brand. Accommodations were designed by Gachot Studios and Kraemer Design Group with handcrafted millwork, custom mattresses and wallpaper inspired by patterns found during the renovation process. The property combines two restored buildings—the former T.B. Rayl & Co. sporting goods and hardware store and the Singer sewing-machine store—with three newly constructed buildings complementary to downtown Detroit’s historic architecture.

“Since 2019, Shinola Hotel has been a quintessential part of downtown Detroit’s hospitality experience, setting the highest bar for quality craftsmanship and exceptional service,” Bedrock VP of Hospitality Andrew Leber said in a statement. “As we turn the page and evolve to best serve our loyal clientele, we are confident that Sage Hospitality’s extensive industry expertise and operational excellence will help guide us into the future. We wish Mac&Lo the very best and thank them for their contributions to making Shinola Hotel what it is today.”

The Shinola Hotel has six food and beverage concepts on-property from NoHo Hospitality and James Beard Award-winning chef Andrew Carmellini, including the Living Room, the Evening Bar, San Morello, The Brakeman and Penny Red's. Additionally, the hotel has special event venues such Bixby Hall and the Birdy Room for all sizes and types of meetings and occasions.

“As a result of this incoming transition, we are delighted to embark on a long-term strategic partnership with Bedrock, Shinola Hotel’s owner, as well as Bedrock Manufacturing, the parent company of Shinola," said Daniel del Olmo, president of hotels and restaurants at Sage Hospitality Group. "Both groups are equally purpose-led and perfectly aligned with our core values. Our team is eager to bring our luxury lifestyle expertise to the property and create memorable experiences for our guests whilst delivering remarkable results for our partners. We very much look forward to what the future holds.”
