New Waterloo expands with Cleveland adaptive reuse hotel

New Waterloo, an independent hotel management company, is expanding into new markets with the Fidelity Hotel, an adaptive reuse project located in the historic 103-year-old Baker Building in downtown Cleveland. The project is in collaboration with NuovoRE, a socially and environmentally conscious real estate firm based in Denver. Fidelity Hotel will have 97 guestrooms and suites, each with tailored amenities and custom-designed furniture. The property will have a full-service restaurant, bar, event and meeting spaces, and a private dining room.

Located in the most visited neighborhood in downtown Cleveland, the new Fidelity Hotel will put guests in the center of the historic district. The ground floor of the hotel will be a gathering space for meetings, socializing, dining and activities. The lobby, bar and restaurant will include a full bar, classic dishes, regional ingredients, and fresh takes on Cleveland essentials. Event and meeting spaces will make it ideal for intimate downtown groups, corporate programs, breakaways and social events. The hotel will have amenities such as 24-hour concierge and guest services, a fitness center, complimentary newspapers and coffee, in-room dining, locally sourced minibars, custom bathrobes, and more.

“Fidelity Hotel is an homage to Cleveland’s long-standing ideals. Our unwavering dedication to the city's soul is expressed through the branding, design, materials, and art—all carefully selected to be additive to and reflective of the innovation and creativity that makes Cleveland so special,” New Waterloo Chief Marketing Officer Alexis Lanman said in a statement. “We will also hold a forum for world-class cultural programming representative of Cleveland’s character and accessible for all.”

The 56,770-square-foot historic Cleveland landmark, designed by Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture and built by Whiting-Turner, will have locally sourced materials, custom-designed furniture and curated art that reflects both the city’s roots and its future. The historic building integrates locally sourced materials and art to delicately balance the old and new. The juxtaposition of the city itself is fully celebrated in the design, which is intended to create an atmosphere that feels uniquely of Cleveland.

“This hotel represents a catalytic opportunity to appeal to more than just travelers,” said New Waterloo CEO, Bart Knaggs “It’s a true community asset. New Waterloo and NuovoRE share a desire to celebrate what makes Cleveland so unique: the proud and storied history, the vibrant culture and the ambitious progressiveness of "the city."

New Waterloo is known for its commitment to community. Each hotel has impact offers available when booking, where a percentage of the booking cost goes to an area nonprofit. Past community partners in other cities have included food banks, historical preservation efforts and nonprofits focusing on solutions for the unhoused population. They also regularly host events for rotating LGBTQ+-oriented charities, mental health nonprofits, and efforts to preserve green and park spaces. New Waterloo’s mission is to create meaningful and positive impact in the places in which they operate; their expansion into Cleveland means a long-term dedication to the city.

New Waterloo owns and operates South Congress Hotel, Otoko, Maie Day, La Condesa, Sway, Café No Sé, Mañana, Il Brutto, and Butler Pitch & Putt. They also manage Revival Hotel in Baltimore and El Capitan in Merced, Calif. Along with its expansion into Cleveland, New Waterloo is slated to open Albert Hotel in Fredericksburg, Texas, and two restaurant concepts in Aspen, Colo., in 2024.
