STR: U.S. hotel occupancy, rate, revenue all up in October

The U.S. hotel industry reported higher monthly performance numbers from September, according to October 2021 data from STR.

October 2021 compared to October 2019:

  • Occupancy: 62.9 percent (-8.8 percent)
  • Average daily rate: $134.78 (+1.2 percent)
  • Revenue per available room: $84.75 (-7.6 percent)

Top Markets

Among the top 25 markets, Nashville experienced the highest occupancy level (71.8 percent), which was still down 11.9 percent from the market’s 2019 benchmark.

None of the top 25 markets saw an occupancy increase over October 2019.

Markets with the lowest occupancy for the month included Oahu Island, Hawaii, (48.9 percent) and Minneapolis (51.1 percent). Oahu Island reported the steepest decline in occupancy when compared with 2019 (-41 percent).

Overall, the top 25 markets showed lower occupancy but higher ADR than all other markets.
