Survey: Boston priciest U.S. city for hotel stays

Boston is the most expensive city in the United States for hotel accommodation for the second year in a row, according to a new survey by Cheaphotels.org. Boston has an average rate of $303 for the most affordable double room. The survey compared hotel rates across 50 US destinations during October—the month when hotel prices in most American cities tend to be at their highest. Only centrally located hotels with a three-star rating or more were considered for the survey.

New York City and Austin, Texas, followed with rates at $288 and $257, respectively. Cleveland placed fourth with an average rate of $234 for the least expensive room. In Ohio's second biggest city, hotel rates are up by 25 percent compared to 2022.

Prices shown reflect the average rate for each city's cheapest available double room (in a centrally located hotel with at least three stars) for the month of October.

Last October, Boston still led with priciest rooms at $262, followed by Austin, Texas, at $255 and Detroit at $244.
