Recycled Sound Control: Air Baffle from Kirei

Kirei, a provider of eco-friendly design materials, has launched the Air Baffle. The new product is part of a collaboration with Nike Grind, a global sustainability program helping turn manufacturing scrap and end-of-life shoes into recycled materials. The Air Baffle gives new life to Nike shoes while improving indoor sound quality.

The ceiling baffle combines the acoustic performance of recycled PET felt with a soft filling made from Nike Grind, a mix of recycled materials created from Nike’s end-of-life footwear. Designers can give spaces a softer look and sound with the curved baffles.

The Air Baffle is inspired by the lines of the Nike Air Max. The baffles suspend vertically from the ceiling and are an acoustical treatment, breaking up sound reverberation and assisting noise mitigation in any large room. The Air Baffle exterior is made from EchoPanel, a registered trademark of Woven Image. Each panel diverts 235 single-use plastic bottles from global landfills and waterways, and since 2004, has led to more than 5,505 tons of PET plastic being recycled.

Made from 12-millimeter EchoPanel, Air Baffle is available in 40-inch, 48-inch, 72-inch or 96-inch lengths in 33 colors. The ceiling baffle comes fully enclosed or with the option of a short or long window. The windows are 3 millimeters thick in a matte finish, made with Class A fire-rated PETG (specially formulated co-polyester resin).
