Following a complete revamp of its public spaces, the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place in Chicago has revealed plans to fully renovate its guestrooms.
Construction is scheduled to commence in two phases eventually transforming all 1,258 guestrooms. The Hyatt Regency McCormick Place South Tower renovations are scheduled for December 2025 through March 2026. The North Tower will follow with renovations scheduled from December 2026 through February 2027.
The Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, owner of Chicago’s McCormick Place campus—which includes the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place—awarded a $59.5 million contract for the renovations to a joint venture of Walsh/GMA Construction Group/Riteway-Huggins Construction in December of 2024.
“MPEA strives to provide a world-class, authentically ‘Chicago’ experience for everyone who attends events on our campus,” said Larita Clark, CEO of MPEA, in a statement. “These renovations will underscore that commitment by providing a completely refreshed guest experience that honors the rich history and charm of our surrounding communities.”
The new guestroom designs are deeply influenced by the architecture, cultural significance, and innovation of Motor Row, once a bustling hub of Chicago’s automobile industry. The design also reflects the Prairie District, a timeless neighborhood whose past is preserved through its historic mansions and tree-lined streets.
“We want to give our guests a taste of Chicago while they are here, even if they never leave the McCormick Place campus - and these designs do just that,” said Matt Schalk, general manager of Hyatt Regency McCormick Place. “McCormick Place is located in a vibrant residential area, unlike most convention centers that sit in city centers. That gives us a greater responsibility to reflect and honor the character of surrounding neighborhoods in our design.”
The guestroom renovations follow extensive upgrades throughout the common areas of the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place completed in 2024. More than 93,000 square feet of meeting and event space, corridors, and restrooms on two levels of the hotel and Hyatt Conference Center were refreshed. Enhancements included updated furniture, carpets, lighting, and décor, along with two-dozen commissioned pieces from local artists.
