KTGY Simeone Deary updates Waldorf Astoria Chicago

The Waldorf Astoria Chicago has kicked off a new renovation project that is slated to wrap up later this spring. As part of the renovation, the hotel will debut updates to its dining venues with a new signature restaurant, a new cocktail bar and lobby lounge. The refresh also will introduce enhancements to the hotel’s spa and debut new premier suites with a redesign of its Presidential Suite as well as the introduction of the new Astoria Suite.

Leading the hotel’s renovation is Chicago-based hospitality design and architecture firm KTGY Simeone Deary Design Group, who first designed the property’s interiors in 2009. Paying homage to Coco Chanel as a celebrated cultural icon, the KTGY Simeone Deary team is combining the hotel’s classic roots inspired by French masters with a refreshed modern design.

“We are delighted to usher in a new chapter for Waldorf Astoria Chicago, and we are honored to reunite with KTGY Simeone Deary Design Group to execute this refreshed design vision,” Todd Temperly, general manager, Waldorf Astoria Chicago, said in a statement. “We look forward to having guests and Chicagoans rediscover our timeless Gold Coast experience, with new and returning traditions for them to cherish.”

Reimagined, Returning Dining Experiences

Waldorf Astoria Chicago will introduce Brass Tack, a signature French brasserie concept drawing inspirations and ingredients from the Midwest. The hotel will also introduce the lobby-level Peacock Alley lounge—paying tribute to the original at the brand flagship, Waldorf Astoria New York. The lounge’s design will incorporate dark colors, a black-and-white marble fireplace and collective books inspired by the Gold Coast and Chicago.

Bernard’s, the bar that closed in 2016, will return to its former space with a design rooted in dark colors, classic forms, tweeds from the Scottish Highlands and equestrian influences.

Enhanced Accommodations

Guestroom and suite designs will get refreshed white-and-black color schemes, incorporating added influences from Coco Chanel and providing a refreshed Parisian apartment feel. The upgraded rooms will have new mirrors and furnishings incorporated throughout and beds will get new floral-inspired upholstered headboards.

Both the 2,400-plus-square-foot Presidential Suite and the 1,800-plus-square-foot Astor Suite are meant to evoke a Parisian pied-à-terre with white color accents, polished wood flooring and bright metals. The Presidential Suite will have a spa and wellness room that includes an infrared sauna, Peloton bikes and other wellness equipment exclusively for private in-room use.

The Waldorf Astoria Chicago Spa & Health Club facilities also will receive a refresh, including the addition of a new couple’s treatment room.
