Swiss hotel adds PPDS TVs in guestrooms

Philips Professional Display Solutions has installed its Philips MediaSuite professional TVs in all 112 guestrooms at the recently reopened Grand Hotel Kronkenhof in Pontresina, Switzerland.

Part of a major restoration program, the owners turned to PPDS to get a connected TV entertainment solution. Working with Swisscom and PPDS to deliver a full radio frequency and internet protocol upgrade with hybrid Wi-Fi connectivity across the entire premises, 127 Philips MediaSuite TVs were installed (ranging from 43 to 55 inches), bringing linear and nonlinear TV and radio channels, integrated Netflix, built-in Chromecast and access to thousands of apps via the Google Play store to each guestroom.

This new entertainment upgrade also includes the PPDS CMND platform, allowing new features to be quickly added without additional costs, as well as creating personalised messaging for guests and feedback opportunities via the TV. The TVs can also be upgraded to the latest Android software (when available), adding updated features, capabilities and security patches as they become available.

“The Swisscom and PPDS team were able to develop a complete interactive solution for us,” said Marc Eichenberger, general manager of the Grand Hotel Kronenhof. “The integration of Netflix and other multimedia apps are a real improvement for our multimedia system. The support of different media (RF and IP) give us the possibility to deploy a new solution on top of our existing RF infrastructure.”

The Grand Hotel Kronenhof first opened in 1848.
