Bangkok's Athenee Hotel reopens as part of Luxury Collection

The Luxury Collection Hotels & Resorts has reopened The Athenee Hotel in Bangkok following a major renovation. The hotel has now joined Marriott's Luxury Collection soft brand, which the company acquired last year as part of its merger with Starwood. This is the second hotel in Bangkok for the Luxury Collection.

Formerly known as Plaza Athenee Bangkok, the newly restored Athenee Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Bangkok stands on the grounds of the Kandhavas Palace, the former royal residence of Princess Valaya Alongkorn. Design-wise, the property pays homage to its regal lineage, although the traditional Thai elements were merged with European influences.

Overseen by interior design firms Vekhin Interior and Bangkok Dec-Con PLC, The Luxury Collection’s renovation of The Athenee Hotel incorporates many aspects of the Thai colonial style of the princess’ lifetime, from the influence of Thai royal ceremonies in the Royal Club guestrooms and Athenee suites to the color palettes and artwork for the interiors.

In addition to the refurbishment of common spaces and all 374 guestrooms, The Athenee Hotel’s transformation includes a newly redesigned city-lagoon styled swimming pool area. The designers also merged the outdoor pool area with an indoor function space inspired by the style of Kandhavas Palace.

Dining venues include the Smooth Curry restaurant and The Glaz bar.
