Outrigger Resorts & Hotels has achieved Green Key Eco-Rating certification across its Hawai‘i portfolio. The Honolulu, Hawai’i-based company now holds certifications for eight properties, reinforcing its focus on sustainability and responsible, place-based hospitality.

The Green Key Global Eco-Rating is an internationally recognized standard for sustainable hospitality. Certification is awarded through a third-party evaluation that assesses performance in areas such as energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management and community impact. Properties are rated from one to five Green Keys, with five representing the highest level of environmental leadership.

“Achieving Green Key Eco-Rating certification across its Hawai‘i portfolio is a meaningful milestone that underscores Outrigger’s leadership in sustainable hospitality,” Ray Sabharwal, global director of marketing at Green Key Global, said in a statement.

Within the portfolio, Outrigger Kaua‘i Beach Resort & Spa was the first to earn certification in September 2025. The property has implemented initiatives including beach cleanups in partnership with the Surfrider Foundation and provides in-room cleanup kits for guests.

Across its Hawai‘i properties, the company has introduced consistent sustainability measures such as reusable tote bags, metal water bottles, refill stations and reef-safe sunscreen.

As of March 2026, five properties—Outrigger Waikīkī Beachcomber Hotel; Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort; Outrigger Kona Resort & Spa; Embassy Suites by Hilton Waikiki Beach Walk; and Outrigger Kā‘anapali Beach Resort—have achieved four Green Keys. Three properties—Outrigger Waikīkī Paradise Hotel, Outrigger Waikīkī Beach Resort and Outrigger Kaua‘i Beach Resort & Spa—have earned three Green Keys.

The certifications align with Outrigger Zone, the company’s conservation initiative focused on protecting and restoring coral reef ecosystems. The program includes marine restoration partnerships, community engagement and on-site sustainability committees that track progress and maintain compliance with certification standards.

The Hawai‘i milestone follows additional certifications in Fiji, where Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort and Castaway Island, Fiji recently became the first properties in the country to achieve Green Key recognition.
