Michael Sichel has been appointed executive chef of the signature restaurant at the upcoming Hotel Bennett, scheduled to open this fall in Charleston, S.C. All meeting and catering cuisine will be derived from the signature restaurant, overseen by Sichel, who will begin his new role in August.
Sichel has more than 25 years of restaurant experience and international culinary training. He most recently served for seven years as executive chef at Galatoire’s in New Orleans and its sister restaurant Galatoire’s 33 Bar & Steak.
“I am passionate about my customers, my cooks and my cuisine and I put my heart into each and every plate,” Sichel said in a statement. “I’m excited about working with the area’s incredible bounty of fish produce and integrating into the culinary community of Charleston, which has fabulous chefs and amazing restaurants. I’m especially looking forward to drawing on my many years of New Orleans fine-dining experience and contributing to this great food city.”
Hotel Bennett is located at the corner of King Street and Marion Square. The hotel is owned by Bennett Hospitality and is managed in partnership with Salamander Hotels & Resorts. The 197-room property’s design draws on the inspiration of European hotels, while its restaurant is spread across two stories and includes outdoor terraces overlooking Marion Square. Hotel Bennett also offers 12,000 square feet of meeting and event spaces, including a 6,600-square-foot Grand Ballroom.
The hotel’s restaurant options include Camellias, a bar and lounge decorated in pink marble from the former Charleston Library. The hotel’s ninth-floor rooftop offers views of Charleston.
