Updated Lighting: 2097 pendant from Flos

Flos is introducing an update to its 2097 pendant designed by Gino Sarfatti, the newest addition to the matte white family. Available with 18, 30 and 50 bulbs, 2097 Matte White is meant to further modernize the contemporary chandelier.

The 2097 chandelier was originally designed in 1958 by Sarfatti with the goal of ushering the classic Murano glass chandelier into modernity. Historically, the Murano glass chandelier is composed of an invisible metal structure that supports the glass, candles, and decorative elements that are mounted to the pendant to emit light. When designing 2097, Sarfatti had an ingenious idea—to transform the usually hidden structure of the chandelier (cables, lightbulbs, etc.) from purely utilitarian tools to the focal point of the design, acting simultaneously as decorative and functional elements.

The pendant that serves as the minimalist answer to a traditional Venetian chandelier, retaining only a central steel tube with radial metal arms, each supporting a lightbulb. Now, in its newest matte white iteration, 2097 is a staple piece that makes a statement in any space. The lamp is fully coated in a matte white, from the structure to the cables (including the smallest parts and details).

The launch of 2097 Matte White follows the launch of Taccia Matte White earlier this summer, another light with its shape and purity highlighted by this newest shade.
